The basics

Getting started

What is Prickly Pantry?

Prickly Pantry is a local, fully managed food, beverage, and everyday-amenity service. We design a Smart Store setup for your property, install it, stock it, clean it, monitor it, and handle repairs—so your team does not have to run it.

What is a Smart Store?

It is a secure, self-checkout market that can combine refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable products. A shopper unlocks the unit with an accepted cashless payment method, takes what they want, and closes the door. The system identifies the items kept and completes the purchase automatically.

What types of properties do you serve?

We evaluate workplaces, healthcare settings, residential communities, and other shared spaces in Los Lunas and surrounding areas. If people regularly spend time at your property, we can assess whether a pantry makes sense there.

How do you decide which machines go into our space?

Every location starts with a free assessment. We look at available space, average daily employees, residents and customers, traffic patterns, hours, product needs, and access to power. Then we recommend a custom mix of refrigerated, frozen, ambient, coffee, or other amenity equipment.

Is there a minimum number of people required?

There is no single headcount that fits every property. Daily traffic, operating hours, the people being served, and the type of setup all matter. Share your average employee, resident, and customer counts in the assessment and we will give you an honest recommendation.

How much space is needed?

That depends on the equipment selected. We can evaluate anything from a compact single-unit placement to a larger multi-machine market. Photos and basic measurements help us confirm clearances, power access, customer flow, and room for restocking.

Cost & requirements

Is the service really free to the property?

Yes. Prickly Pantry does not charge your property for the equipment, installation, stocking, cleaning, routine service, or repairs. We earn revenue when people purchase products from the pantry.

What does our property need to provide?

Typically, the host provides an approved indoor location, electrical power, and reasonable access for installation and service. Any connectivity or site-specific requirements are confirmed during the assessment before you agree to move forward.

Are there any possible fees or outside costs?

There are no hidden Prickly Pantry program fees. The property is responsible for the electricity the equipment uses. Depending on the property and local requirements, a permit, electrical work, or business registration may also be needed. We will discuss any known requirement before installation so there are no surprises.

Do the machines need Wi-Fi?

Connectivity depends on the final equipment and the signal available at the placement. We confirm the connection plan during the site assessment; please do not arrange a new internet service before we evaluate the location.

Will we know the placement terms before installation?

Yes. We review the recommended equipment, placement, property responsibilities, service expectations, and any applicable terms before scheduling installation.

Using the Smart Store

How does a customer make a purchase?

Follow the instructions on the unit and use an accepted cashless payment method to unlock it. Take the products you want, return anything you change your mind about, and close the door completely. The Smart Store recognizes the items kept and completes the transaction.

What payment methods are accepted?

The machines are cashless and accept supported credit or debit cards. Compatible contactless or mobile-wallet options may also be available depending on the installed unit; the payment screen shows the options available at that location.

What if I pick up an item and put it back?

You are not charged for an item that is correctly returned before the door closes. Place it back inside the same Smart Store, make sure the door fully closes, and check your receipt.

Can I buy several items in one transaction?

Yes. Take all the items you want during the same shopping session. When the door closes, the purchase is finalized as one transaction.

How do receipts work?

The checkout flow provides a digital receipt. First-time users may be asked for a mobile number so the receipt link can be delivered by text. Keep the receipt if you need help with a transaction.

Is the Smart Store secure?

Yes. The units use secure locks, payment authorization, product-recognition technology, and remote monitoring. The host property also controls who can access the room or building where the pantry is located.

Products & service

What products can Prickly Pantry carry?

Depending on your setup, the pantry can offer snacks, cold drinks, coffee, fresh meals, frozen foods, healthier choices, and useful everyday essentials. Equipment, food-safety needs, customer demand, and product availability determine the final mix.

Can we request specific products or healthier options?

Absolutely. Hosts and current customers can use our product suggestion form. We review requests against demand, availability, shelf life, and equipment fit. We cannot guarantee every item, but suggestions directly help shape the product mix.

How often is the pantry restocked?

We monitor sales and inventory remotely and service locations on a routine schedule, typically every week and more often when demand requires it. The goal is to restock before popular items run out—not wait for the property to report an empty shelf.

Who cleans, maintains, and repairs the equipment?

Prickly Pantry handles it all. Your employees do not need to clean, restock, troubleshoot, or schedule repairs for the amenity. We manage the pantry from installation through ongoing upkeep.

How do you handle product dates and freshness?

We inspect dates, rotate inventory, and remove products as part of regular service. Refrigerated and frozen products are stocked only in equipment designed to hold them at the appropriate temperature.

Can the product mix or setup change later?

Yes. We use real purchase patterns and customer feedback to adjust the product mix over time. If a larger equipment or layout change would better serve the property, we can evaluate that with the host.

Support

What if a machine is not working?

Contact Prickly Pantry using the support information on the unit or through our contact page. Include the location, the unit involved, and what happened. Our team will troubleshoot the issue and arrange service when needed.

What if I think I was charged incorrectly?

Contact us with the location, transaction time, amount, and your digital receipt if available. We will review the transaction and help resolve any verified checkout error.

Can the pantry be available 24/7?

The Smart Store can operate around the clock as long as it has power, connectivity, and access is permitted by the host property. Building management decides when residents, employees, customers, or visitors may enter the pantry area.

What should we do during a power outage?

Do not force the unit open. If the outage is prolonged, notify Prickly Pantry so we can evaluate refrigerated or frozen inventory before normal service resumes.

How do we get started?

Complete the free location assessment with your property details and average daily traffic. We will follow up, learn about the space, and recommend a setup that fits—without pressure or obligation.
